With everyone raving about Notion, I almost fell into the trap of subscribing to it, thinking I would unlock some magical features. But after considering my needs, I realized that Notion is not the best fit for everyone. If you’re just looking to take notes or keep things organized, it can be overly complex.

For those of us who don’t need a database or a complex project management tool, there are simpler alternatives. Two of my favorites are xTiles and Apple Notes. While xTiles is a fantastic tool for visual organization, Apple Notes is my go-to for straightforward note-taking.

Now, let’s discuss why I adore Apple Notes. It’s incredibly user-friendly. Creating folders is a breeze; just click the bottom-left corner, select "New Folder," and voilà! You have a new folder. You can also drag and drop to organize your folders easily.

Smart folders are another feature I cherish. They auto-curate content based on your specified criteria. For instance, if I want to create a smart folder for everything from December 2024, I can do that in just a few clicks. This means I don't have to remember where I saved everything; Apple Notes does it for me!

📝 How to Format Text

Formatting text in Apple Notes is straightforward. You can create checklists, tables, and even apply colors to your text. Highlight a word, right-click, and choose your formatting options. It’s intuitive!

If you want to add tags, just type them in like hashtags. They show up in searches, making it easy to find what you need later on. Sharing notes is simple too; just hit the share button and you can send it via AirDrop or email.

Need to add an image? Just drag and drop it into your note. Want to include a link? Click the link button and you’re done. It’s all about making the process as seamless as possible.

So when do I use xTiles versus Apple Notes? I prefer xTiles for visual projects where I need to see images and layouts at a glance. As a graphic designer, this tool is invaluable for showcasing fonts and designs. But for straightforward note-taking, nothing beats Apple Notes.
